Due diligence before buying a mine or mining licence in Zambia

25 September 2026 · 7 min read

Key questions to ask before investing in a Zambian mine, claim or licence — rights, ownership, environmental obligations and independent verification.

Verify the rights independently

Confirm the licence type, holder, area and validity directly with the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development and its official cadastre — never rely only on copies supplied by a seller.

MineMarket Zambia is a private marketplace. It does not issue, certify or guarantee any mining right.

Check ownership and the company behind it

Confirm who owns the licence-holding company through PACRA records, and whether any shareholder, lender or partner has claims over the asset.

Understand environmental and community obligations

Ask for environmental approvals, rehabilitation obligations and any outstanding liabilities. Understand agreements with local communities and landholders.

Get the geology reviewed

Resource claims should be supported by credible exploration data and, ideally, reviewed by an independent geologist. Treat unsupported grade or tonnage figures with caution.

Engage Zambian legal and tax advisers before signing anything.
